EV Information
ELECTRIC VEHICLES (EV) INFORMATION
Electric Vehicles (EV) are being developed and rolled out at a rapid rate and GM and Robert Brogden's Olathe Buick GMC in Olathe are both wanting to be at the front of the EV future. We understand there's many with questions with regards to charging options, what kind of vehicles are coming, and more and we're here to help address some of those questions.
CHARGING
One of the biggest questions, and concerns, about Electric Vehicles is the availability of charging. But it's not nearly as stressful as you may think. You can charge any EV using a standard 120V outlet found in your home which is considered Level 1 Charging. If you have access to a 240V outlet, or purchase a portable adapter, you can charge at the faster Level 2.
But what about when you're out on the road? Is an EV feasible for a summer road trip? There's little need to worry. There are already more than 25,000 public spaces across the US and Canada (many of which are at malls) equipped with Level 2 chargers to get your vehicle topped off and at maximum charge in a short amount of time. GM has also launched a feature on the myChevrolet app which helps locate any general charging stations (Level 1 or Level 2) of which there are currently over 40,000 throughout the US and Canada. GM is also working with EVgo to build an additional 2,700 fast charging stations over the next five years as well.
With the amount of charging stations available, and even more coming, finding somewhere to top off before heading home from work in OLATHE or doing a quick check just to make sure there are some easily accessible during a road trip is going to be easier than ever.
CONFIGURATION BENEFITS
Another understated benefit of EVs are they're much more configurable and as a result consumers have an easier time obtaining the vehicle with the traits they're looking for. One such example is battery options where a vehicle can be configured to have a battery of 50kWh to over 200 kWh to provide the highest possible range. Multiple drivetrains can also be offered for vehicles far more easily, ranging from FWD, RWD, or AWD without requiring major designs for vehicles, and horsepower configurations can range from 235 to 1,000 horsepower. As a result GM can produce many more options per vehicle and consumers will have more to choose from as well, a win/win for both parties.
The ability to quickly and easily alter EV specifications is a major benefit for both consumer and manufacturer alike.
Current & Upcoming Vehicles
GMC HUMMER EV
As the first electric supertruck, the GMC HUMMER redefines what trucks should be capable of. Introduced in 2022, the GMC HUMMER is loaded with features you won't find anywhere else, such as the available Crabwalk system which allows the HUMMER to drive diagonally, an available Extract Mode which will lift the truck roughly six inches to give over any obstacles, and best of all, an incredible range of over 350 miles (GM-estimated) and the ability to get a charge for nearly 100 miles in just ten minutes.
The GMC HUMMER isn't just about fancy features though, it has performance to spare with configurations of up to 1,000 horsepower and 11,500lb-ft of torque. (Yes, 11,500. You read that right.) There's going to be nowhere the GMC HUMMER won't be able to get to, on road or off.
BUICK WILDCAT EV
The Wildcat was developed to convey the all-new design language that will influence Buick production models for the foreseeable future. With its poised, ready-to-pounce stance plus its design for advanced artificial intelligence and biometric technology, the Wildcat EV Concept is efficiency and innovation in a head-turning package.
Buick’s first electric vehicle is expected to be available in 2024 with plans for an all-electric lineup in the US and Canada by the end of the decade.
